Spirit River

60

By Silva Hayes

Our spirits float down a river
In waters both peaceful and turbulent.
The banks are towering vertical rock;
We tumble in unstopping current.

The river is made of narrow threads
And wide ribbons of fabulous light;
Delicate iridescent rose and lime,
Aubergine, lilac and heavenly white.

Passionate red, tangerine and copper;
Dramatic, shining dark and devout.
Pure metallic gold, silver and bronze
Hologram glitter randomly throughout.

Amethyst spirits, topaz, and scarlet,
Celestial blue, indigo, aquamarine,
Amber, saffron, cinnabar, sapphire,
Shot with black and Caribbean green.

Sad, among beauty dangerous places,
Dark waters treacherous with damaging yield.
War causes great ugly rents in the spirit tapestry,
And generations pass before those rents are healed.

Our spirits float and linger in calm and placid pools,
Then glide fast and straight as an arrow down the middle,
Suddenly buffeted and spun and slammed into rocks,
We are flung from the edge back into life’s great riddle.

One day we die and our light flares briefly, then dims,
And our spirit sinks to the bottom of the river of life,
To slowly tumble to the sea where we nourish the great mother earth.
Until then, our spirit sleeps, sediment untroubled by turmoil and strife.

Our spirit river is visible from far out in space.
For the most part, our colors please the gods that be.
They are entertained by the play and contrast
Of spectacular colors we generate as we live wild and free.

The gods are repulsed by discord and disharmony
Projected by the thugs and criminals led astray,
But the gods do nothing to change the course of events;
They simply watch the show of lights and then turn away.

They have many other amusements.

Tao can be thought of the flow of the universe , and is often described as similar to water. Like water, Tao is endlessly self-replenishing, soft and quiet but immensely powerful. Much of Taoist philosophy centers on the cyclical continuity of the natural world and its contrast to the linear, goal-oriented actions of human beings.

Treasure simplicity
See beauty
Love peace
Be patient
Be gentle
Be happy
Be true
Be still

“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” Robert F. Kennedy

Lots of stuff here. I'll have to read it again. Nice flowing words. I enjoyed this.

Thanks for your comment, suziecat7. This came to me last Saturday like a vision. I was still in bed, at 6:30 a.m., enjoying that it was the first day of Christmas vacation and that for the next two weeks I wouldn't have to get up in the dark and take the granddaughters to school. I relaxed and closed my eyes and these wide ribbons of fabulous color began flowing before my closed eyes like a movie, all moving from left to right. It seemed to last for an hour and knowledge just seeped into my brain about what I was seeing. Then it began to fade and I heard a far-away voice say "Study the Tao." It was so strange; I barely had an idea of what Tao was about. So I did a lot of reading on the web about it and plan to study more. Fascinating philosophy.
